You’ll never get the story done if you don’t sit down and write it! It simply cannot exist without you.
Tip for the sentimental mind:
You have an audience waiting to read your writing, including you! I’m sure there’s a reason you’re excited for this work, so do you and those other readers a favor and just write it! It’s okay if it isn’t perfect. That’s what drafts are for.
Tip for the anxious mind:
I know it’s hard to just let go of the need for it to be Perfect before you post it, but that is just going to make it never get done. Drafts will only get better, but they won’t exist without you starting! Just get the imperfection down and you can improve it with time. It’s okay if it sucks at first. I guarantee you most, if not all, of your favorite books started out sucking and improved as the authors took the time to edit them.
The advice “just do it” applies here. It’s easy to overthink, but overthinking leads to not doing, which leads to regret or mental exhaustion from the runaround of “I want to but I can’t because of this reason but I really want to but I can’t because of this reason.”
Just shut off your mind and write it. This is why I write with music on. It helps me to shut out the words screaming in my head and focus on words that bring me other thoughts and emotions instead and enable the words to flow.
